It is about how
to control the process

It is for you if you work
in a marketing department

You can easily apply
what you will see here

It is the way
to a better design

1

Detach yourself, run away from the computer, look for a place different from the one where you work, take a pencil, and a white sheet, and leave your worries and your phone far away. Think big, you can change the world! Turn this project into the coolest experience of the moment. With the right mindset, you can change the world or even your universe.

2

Well, you’ve dreamed enough! Put a plan on paper. Think about the audience, the goals, and how you can create a great experience for them, trying to reach the goals. The key stage is understanding the audience. If you don’t know them well enough, it’s time to get to know them.

3

There are no limits! Put on paper the most daring way to conquer the public. There is no good method or bad method here, there is only the idea of courage or the lack of it. Collect as many ideas as possible.

4

Maybe you already know your audience, or maybe not. Anyway, put on paper information about them, what they want, how they interact (offline, digital). Talk to at least 3 people to validate ideas and build at least a portrait for one person – build personas (learn more about personas here – https://www.hubspot.com/make-my-persona).

5

You have a plan, and you already have a design line, that’s very good, but it’s time to go back to the objectives. One of them is to link your approach to the brand. To what extent, what you created respects the brand elements, what about the style guide elements? Line them up. It’s not easy, but from here some even cooler ideas appear.

6

Good, you already have many ideas and a series of sketches. Turn them into a concept. In this stage, you will have to simplify, refine, keeping the audience in mind.

7

Too many stages of analysis, strategic thinking, and sketches. The time has come to give life to the concept. Create a version on which you can take the first feedback, the prototype.

8

Take 2-3-4 days for analysis and reflection. Ask for feedback, discuss, analyze. Do not rush this stage, it is an essential period for finding that element of genius.

9

You probably gathered a good round of feedback and came up with a series of new ideas. Go back to step 3, think about your audience and simplify, simplify, simplify.

10

You already have all the information, go ahead and build using everything you have gathered so far, especially what you learned in stage 8. It will be an upward journey.

11

Take a break, and look back! Is what you have created clear enough, simple enough, and suitable for your audience? Is this material for him? Simplify!

12

Step 11 is important, treat it with sincerity and responsibility. If everything is fine, go ahead and complete the project, if not, go to step 10.

13

There you are, you’ve reached the end. You’ve made a material that is relevant for your stakeholders (public), able to inspire and to make a change. Perfect, next time it will be easier and better. Don’t stop thinking big!
